WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today that UCLA’s Nirra Fields was voted the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Pac-12 Freshman of the week for the week of Dec. 24-30. Fields is the first player to earn both honors in the same week after leading the Bruins to a dominating win over Pepperdine last week.
A freshman from Montreal, Canada, Nirra Fields came off the bench to lead the team with her first career double-double, registering 19 points and 12 rebounds to help No. 17/18 UCLA to a 77-46 win at Pepperdine on Dec. 28. It was the Bruins’ only game of the week. The 5-foot-9 guard also added season highs of six assists and six steals. The road win helped the Bruins improve to 8-2 on the year and 5-0 in games away from home (3-0 road, 2-0 neutral). Her 12 rebounds helped UCLA post its third straight game with a +16-rebounding advantage.
It is Fields’ first-career player of the week and freshman of the week honor. It is the 46th player of the week honor for UCLA all-time.
The Bruins end the non-conference regular-season schedule today, New Years Eve, hosting St. Joseph’s at 1 p.m. PT. UCLA then hits the road on Friday and Sunday to take on Oregon and Oregon State, respectively, to open Pac-12 play.
