WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Players of the Week for the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 2. Utah’s Taryn Wicijowski was voted the Pac-12 Player of the Week, while Colorado’s Arielle Roberson was selected the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the third time this season.
Junior forward Taryn Wicijowski (Regina, Saskatchewan) averaged 23.5 points per game, shooting 69 percent from the floor, and 6.5 rebounds per game while leading Utah to a pair of wins over Utah State (92-64) and at Hawai’i (62-61). The Utes are 7-0, their best start since 2000-01. Wicijowski had 21 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and six assists in the blowout win against Utah State. She then netted a career-high 26 points against the Rainbow Wahine, tallying 12 points by halftime. Wicijowski ranks second in the NCAA in field goal percentage, converting on 66.7 percent of her shooting attempts this season, while also averaging 17.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
Forward Arielle Roberson (San Antonio, Texas) scored a career and team season-high 25 points, including a late 3-point basket to lead Colorado to a 69-62 road win at Illinois, helping the Buffaloes to their 19th-straight regular season non-conference victory. She was 7-of-8 from the field and 10-of-14 from the foul stripe to mark her sixth-straight double-figure scoring output to begin her career. She also had five rebounds, three steals and an assist against in the win. Prior to the road victory against Illinois, Roberson led the Buffs to a 68-59 home win over Wyoming, scoring 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting. For the week, she averaged 19.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while shooting an efficient 72.2 percent from the floor. She ranks 19th in the NCAA in field goal shooting at 60.3 percent.
This is Wicijowski’s first-career player of the week honor and Utah’s second Pac-12 Player of the Week honor since the Utes joined the league last year. Roberson takes home the freshman weekly honor for the third time in four weeks.
The Utes have just one game this week, hosting in-state rival BYU on Saturday, Dec. 8. The Buffs host Colorado State on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Both games will be streamed live on Pac-12.com. Links for the stream can also be found at each team’s website.
