WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Doris Chen of USC has been named the Pac-12 Women’s Golfer of the Month for April, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Chen, a freshman from Bradenton, Fla., helped lead the Trojans to three top-5 finishes in the month of April. She started the month with a 4-over 217 (72-73-72) to finish in a tie for 11th at the Ping/ASU Invitational and led the Trojans to a tie for fifth. In the month’s second tournament, she posted a 4-over 220 (72-78-70) to post a 28th place finish at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate where the Trojans finished second. She’s saved her best for the end of the month when she earned medalist honors at the Pac-12 Championship, posting a 1-over 217 (77-72-68) in guiding the Trojans to another second place finish.
Over the last two tournaments, Chen had four rounds at even or under par (out of six rounds), including a 68 in the final round of the Pac-12 Championship. She had a 72.7 stroke average in her three tournaments this month.
Chen and the Trojans return to action as the No. 1 seed in the 2012 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships Central Regional, May 10-12, at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
