The Pac-12 Networks announced today its slate of 2012 women’s soccer matchups that features 58 live televised contests in the network’s inaugural season, including more than 40 appearances from 2011 NCAA Tournament-qualifying teams.
“We are excited about the opportunity to deliver the kind of exposure to women’s soccer that it richly deserves,” said Gary Stevenson, President of Pac-12 Enterprises. “Year after year, the Pac-12 produces some of the very best teams and most prolific women’s soccer players in the country, including last year’s national champion Stanford. Through the Pac-12 Networks broadcast schedule this Fall, fans will have a chance to see championship caliber soccer as well as the next wave of international stars every week.”
The schedule kicks off with defending NCAA Champion Stanford hosting perennial power Santa Clara, the Pac-12 Networks’ first-ever live event production, Friday, August 17 at 7:00 PM PT (10:00 PM ET).
“We are very excited to be featured on the Pac-12 Networks as the first-ever game broadcast,” said Stanford head coach Paul Ratcliffe, 2011 Pac-12 Coach of the Year. “It’s a historic day for the Pac-12 Conference and a great opportunity for women’s soccer to gain national exposure.”
In addition to the national champion Cardinal, the 2012 women’s soccer television slate features seven teams finishing in the final top 25 national rankings last season including Conference members Stanford (No. 1) and UCLA (No. 7). The Cardinal season opener vs. Santa Clara will be a highly-anticipated rematch as Stanford posted a 2-0 shutout over the Broncos in the ninth contest of the 2011 season that ended in an undefeated record and Stanford’s first NCAA title.
The 2011 campaign was a dominant year for Pac-12 women’s soccer that, in addition to Stanford cap-turing its national championship, saw four additional teams earn NCAA Tournament berths, six players earn All-America honors and one player winning the Hermann Trophy, given to the nation's top-collegiate player. The national scholar-athlete of the year was also from the Pac-12. This fall, All-Americans Emily Oliver (Stanford) and Abby Dahlkemper (UCLA) return to the field, along with Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Chioma Ubogagu (Stanford) as three of the Conference's players to watch.
In its inaugural season, the Pac-12 Networks brings an unprecedented level of exposure to its ac-claimed member institutions that have combined to collect a record 450 NCAA titles. The 58 televised Pac-12 women’s soccer matchups are just a portion of 217 exciting live events including football, volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s water polo, field hockey and cross country telecast over 100 days this fall, putting the Conference of Champions on a national stage.
The Pac-12 Networks launch August 15 and will consist of one national and six regional networks de-voted solely to the Pac-12. In addition to the hundreds of live televised Pac-12 sporting events, Pac-12 Networks subscribers will have access to their carrier’s TV Everywhere platform, providing access to all Pac-12 Networks programming on any device through their broadband service.
