WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Washington midfielder Lindsay Elston and Oregon State goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme were named Pac-12 women's soccer players of the week for the week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2.
Elston, a junior from Sammamish, Wash., scored a pair of goals, including a game-winner, and added two assists in wins over LaSalle and Fresno State to earn Pac-12 player of the week honors. In the Huskies’ home-opener on Friday, she scored the go-ahead goal in the fourth minute and assisted on an insurance goal in the 82nd minute to help secure a 2-0 win over La Salle. Elston added a goal and an assist In a 3-1 victory over Fresno State on Sunday. She has recorded points in all five of Washington’s games this season.
Prudhomme, a freshman from Aliso Viejo, Calif., allowed just one goal and collected 13 saves in her first collegiate start in a 2-1 win over Cal State Fullerton on Thursday to take home defensive player of the week honors. Her 13 saves, which represent a Pac-12 single-game high this season, were the most by a Oregon State goalkeeper since 2010. Prudhomme’s play in net allowed the Beavers to earn the win despite being outshot 22-4 and conceding the game’s first goal.
This is the first weekly honor for Elston, who is Washington’s 17th all-time Player of the Week. For Prudhomme, this also marks her first Pac-12 player of the week accolade. She is Oregon State’s 12th player of the week recipient.
Washington travels to Spokane, Wash. to play Gonzaga on Friday before returning home to take on perennial power Notre Dame. Oregon State faces a two-game California slate this weekend with road games against UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.
