WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – STANFORD freshman David Nolan and CALIFORNIA junior Caitlin Leverenz have been named Pac-12 Swimmers of the Month for February, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Nolan earned Swimmer of the Meet honors at his first Pac-12 Championships, winning three individual events while also swimming on three victorious relay teams. Nolan won the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM and was a member of the 400 medley, 200 free and 800 free relays. His winning times in the individual events rank in the top-five at Stanford all-time. Nolan’s 200 IM time of 1:42.52 was the second-fastest in Cardinal history. Stanford won its 31st consecutive Conference title in Los Angeles. During the regular season in February, Nolan won the 100 fly and 400 medley relay against USC and the 200 IM against Cal.
Leverenz was named Swimmer of the Meet after helping the Golden Bears win the Pac-12 Championships in Federal Way, Wash. Leverenz posted school records and automatic NCAA qualifying times on her way to winning the 400 IM, 200 breast and 400 medley relay. The 400 medley relay swam 3:28.26 to set U.S. Open, NCAA, Pac-12 and Pac-12 meet records. Leverenz was dominant in the 400 IM and 200 breast, winning by almost five and four seconds, respectively. She also won three events in the dual-meet loss to Stanford.
This is Nolan’s second Swimmer of the Month award and Stanford’s 12th all-time. On the women’s side, this is Leverenz’s third career monthly award and the ninth for the Bears.
