The Pac-10 has started its inaugural season by posting a 29-14 (.674) record in non-conference play...All Pac-10 teams begin Conference play this week...There will be two Top 25 matchups this weekend as No. 4 STANFORD hosts No. 12 WASHINGTON and No. 1 UCLA...UCLA is the consensus No. 1 team once again this week, along with STANFORD ranked at No. 4 (Soccer America) and No. 12 (NSCAA) and WASHINGTON at No. 12 (Soccer America).

Pac-10 Player of the Week

UCLA senior midfielder Shaun Tsakiris has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 26 - Oct. 2.

Tsakris, from Saratoga, Calif., recorded two goals and an assist during the week. He came off the bench to score the game-winning goal against 1999 national finalist Santa Clara on Sept. 28. Tsakiris also led the Bruins back against St. Mary's on Oct. 1. Down 2-1 at the half, Tsakiris assisted on the equalizer and then scored the game-winning goal himself.

This is the second weekly honor for Tsakiris and UCLA's fourth Player of the Week honor all-time.

Pac-10 Notebook

CALIFORNIA: The Bears dropped two games last week, 1-0 to Cincinnati and 2-1 to Seton Hall, as they finished fourth in the Stanford/Nike Invitational. Cal's lone goal of the tournament came from senior forward Kendall Simmonds. Senior midfielder Ramiro Arredondo and junior midfielder Chris Roner were named to the All-Tournament team.

OREGON STATE: OSU played in the first Pac-10 Conference game in history at Washington on Oct. 1. In the 1-0 loss to the Huskies, freshman goalkeeper Peter Billmeyer had eight saves and currently has 33 saves on the season. The 1-0 margin was the tightest contest between the schools since OSU lost 2-1 in 1996.

STANFORD: The Cardinal won its third tournament this year, capturing the Stanford Nike Invitational by defeating Seton Hall 5-0 and Cincinnati 4-0. Stanford placed four players on the All-Tournament team and swept MVP honors, as Johanes Maliza and Ryan Nelson joined Offensive MVP Luke Rust (three goals, two game-winners) and Defensive MVP Lee Morrison (two shutouts, only seven shots). Stanford has outscored its opponents 38-1 through its first nine games.

UCLA: The top-ranked Bruins won thrilling contests against 1999 national finalist Santa Clara 1-0 on Sept. 28 and St. Mary's 3-2 on Oct. 1. Senior midfielder Shaun Tsakiris was the catalyst for UCLA as he scored both game-winners and assisted on the equalizer against St. Mary's. In addition to the Bruins' great start, senior forward McKinley Tennyson, Jr., was named a candidate for the 15th Missouri Athletic Club Award, the official National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas award for Division I players.

WASHINGTON: The Huskies won the first Pac-10 Conference game in history as they were led by Sophomore reserve Dayo Oyetuga, who scored the lone goal of the game at the 59:48 mark.Washington Sophomore Chad Olsen went the distance again in goal for the Huskies, recording his third shutout of the year.
