SERIES NOTES FOR THE GAMES OF SEP 23:

UCLA (3-0) at OREGON (2-1) - 12:30 PDT - FOX Sports Net - The Series: UCLA and Oregon have met 54 times dating back to 1928 with the Bruins leading the series by a 37-17 count. UCLA has won the last four and six of the last seven. The Bruins have had success at Eugene with a record of 16-8, including winning the last three The last Oregon win in the series came in 1995 at Pasadena (38-31) and the last Duck home win came in 1990 (28-24). Despite UCLA's recent success in the series, seven of the last eight games have been decided by eight points or less. UCLA coach Bob Toledo spent six seasons (1983-88) as an assistant at Oregon and has gone 4-0 against the Ducks since taking over the Bruin helm. Current Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti succeeded Toledo as Duck offensive coordinator in 1989. . . . Last Year: UCLA and Oregon met on a warm day at the Rose Bowl with the Bruins cruising out to a 34-10 lead after three quarters only to have to withstand a Duck comeback in hanging on for a 34-29 win. Oregon's comeback was sparked by an 81-yard interception return for a TD by ILB Matt Smith on the first play of the fourth quarter and the Ducks proceeded to put up 193 yards and 19 points in the final stanza. Oregon fell one yard short as time expired with the Ducks just a yard shy of the UCLA end zone. It marked the Bruins' 13th straight regular season win in the Rose Bowl and the first time the Ducks had lost two regular season games in a row in two years. The teams combined for 676 yards passing with UCLA redshirt freshman Cory Paus completing 21 of 34 (.618) for 332 yards and two TDs and UO QB A.J. Feeley matching it by passing for 313 yards and two scores. Duck WR Keenan Howry had six receptions for 123 yards (20.5) and one TD. It wasn't all offense as the defenses combined to force nine turnovers.

IDAHO (0-3) at WASHINGTON STATE (1-1) - 2:00 PDT - The Series: Washington State and Idaho are old neighborhood rivals that have met 82 times dating back to 1894. WSU holds a commanding 63-16-3 series advantage and had won 14 in a row dating back to 1966 before being upset by the Vandals last season. . . . . Last Year: Washington State was technically the visiting team at Pullman's Martin Stadium as Idaho was utilizing WSU's facility for its home games. And the Vandals made themselves right at home by and upending the Cougars, 28-17, in a come-from-behind victory. WSU jumped out to an early 14-0 lead that held up until halftime, but Idaho stormed back for four second-half touchdowns to take over the game. Rossi Martin had two long TD receptions of 51 and 42 yards and Anthony Tenner rushed for 118 yards for the Vandals.

SAN DIEGO STATE (0-3) at OREGON STATE (2-0)- 3:30 PDT - The Series: Oregon State and San Diego State have met just twice with the Aztecs winning both contests. This is the first meeting at Corvallis as the previous games were at San Diego in 1972 and Portland in 1975. San Diego State is coached by former USC head coach Ted Tollner, who led the Trojans to a 26-20-1 record from 1983-86, including a win in the 1985 Rose Bowl. Tollner was 2-0 against Oregon State while at USC. . . . Last Meeting: Oregon State opened the 1975 season against San Diego State at Portland with the Aztecs blanking the Beavers 25-0. San Diego State's defense limited OSU to 152 yards and forced five turnovers.

SAN JOSE STATE (2-1) at USC (2-0) - 3:30 PDT - The Series: USC and San Jose State have met just once with the Trojans taking a 45-7 home win in 1995. . . . Last Meeting: USC opened the 1995 season at home against San Jose State and the No. 7-ranked Trojans rolled a 45-7 win in what would prove to be a Rose Bowl season. USC outgained San Jose 462-247, with a nice balance in rushing for 205 yards and four TDs and passing for 257. SE Keyshawn Johnson had his ninth straight 100-yard receiving game with eight catches for 124 yards. The Trojan defense limited the Spartans to 70 yards rushing, posted four QB sacks and had three interceptions.

UTAH STATE (1-1) vs. ARIZONA STATE (2-0) - 7:00 MST/PDT - The Series: Arizona State and Utah State have met 11 times with the Sun Devils leading the series 8-3. ASU leads 7-2 in games played at Tempe. Arizona State coach Bruce Snyder was head coach at Utah State for seven years from 1976-82 and was named Big West Coach of the Year in 1978 (he has subsequently been named Pac-10 Coach of the Year twice). . . . Last Meeting: Arizona State and Utah State last met in 1985 at Tempe with the Sun Devils drubbing the Aggies 42-10. ASU intercepted Utah State six times in the game.

CALIFORNIA (1-1) at FRESNO STATE (0-2)- 7:15 PDT - FOX Sports Net -The Series: First trip to Fresno for California as Cal and Fresno State have met just once with the Bulldogs taking a 25-24 decision at Berkeley in 1995. . . . Last Meeting: California and Fresno State met at Berkeley early in the 1995 season in the only previous meeting between the two teams. The Golden Bears saw a 12-point fourth-quarter lead evaporate as the Bulldogs rallied on a pair of long scoring drives to pull out a 25-24 come-from-behind win.
