Women's Golf in Seventh at Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational

REDMOND, Wash. - After shooting a 23-over par in Monday's first round, the Arizona State women's golf team stands in seventh place at the University of Washington's Edean Ihlanfeldt Golf Invitational being held Oct. 9-11 at the Sahalee Country Club.

Led by senior Molly Cooper who is tied for 10th with a two-over 74, the 15th-ranked Sun Devil squad are 19 strokes behind tournament leader USC (292) after the first round which was delayed for over two hours by rain and lightning shortly after play began. USC holds a commanding 12-stroke lead over Pepperdine (304) after the first round, while Washington (305), Tulsa (306) and UCLA (306) round out the top five.

Cooper turned in the best day for the Sun Devils and stands six strokes behind Stanford's Stephanie Keever and USC's Nicole Dalkas who finished with two-under 70s to take the early lead. ASU junior Lisa Meredith shot a six-over 78 and is tied for 30th, while freshman Jimin Kang is tied for 36th after carding a seven-over 79. Senior Michaela Friberg is tied for 42nd (80) and sophomore Blair O'Neal shot an 85 and stands in a tie for 67th.

The Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational continues Tuesday and Wednesday.
