Oct. 11, 2000

REDMOND, Wash. -- The Oregon women's golf team recorded its best round of the season, a 16-over par 304, to finish eighth on the final day of the Edhean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Tuesday at the par-72, 5,953-yard Sahalee Country Club.

'It was almost a relief that we were able to pull it together and play well,' said Duck head coach Shannon Rouillard. 'This was our best round of the year by far. We played with a lot of heart today.'

Oregon senior Claire Hunter shot a five-over 77 to finish the tournament tied for 19th overall at 15-over. It was the first top 20 finish for the Scotland native since she tied for fifth at the Oregon Invitational Sept. 27-28, 1999.

The Ducks' top four golfers all improved their positions from Tuesday's second rounds. Freshman Katharina Schallenberg continued to be Oregon's steadiest golfer, shooting a final round 77 to tie for 24th at plus-16. Jerilyn White rebounded from a pair of 80s to shoot a team-best one-over 73 on the final day and finished the tournament tied for 26th at 17-over. It was the senior All-America candidate's best finish of the fall. Kathy Cho also climbed on Wednesday, shooting a 77 to finish tied for 34th.

No. 3 USC won the tournament by compiling a three round total of 896, 12 strokes better than No. 5 Stanford's 908. No. 15 Arizona State followed at 911, while No. 10 Pepperdine came in with a 913, No. 16 UCLA took fifth with a 194 and No. 11 Tulsa was sixth at 917.

Washington started the day 12 strokes ahead of the Ducks, but had to hold on to claim seventh with a 930, which was just two strokes better than Oregon's 932. No. 25 New Mexico was ninth with a 942, California was 10th at 943 and Oregon State was 13th of 17 teams with a 975.

The Ducks return to action Oct. 20-22 at the Stanford-Pepsi Intercollegiate in California's San Francisco Bay Area.
