No. 2 UCLA Men's Soccer Team Downs Oregon State 4-1

Oct. 13, 2000

Los Angeles, CA - The potent UCLA tandem of Shaun Tsakiris and McKinley Tennyson Jr. accounted for all four UCLA goals in a 4-1 victory over Oregon State at UCLA's Spaulding Field in Pac-10 men's soccer action.

The Bruins' first two goals came off set pieces. At 25:55, Tsakiris curled a free kick around the wall and into the top right corner of the net from 20 yards out to stake UCLA to a 1-0 lead. Tennyson followed suite at 30:59 when he headed in a Tsakiris free kick.

Oregon State nearly scored two minutes later, but Matt Olsen's shot hit the top of the post and out of harm's way. But the Beavers did capitalize on their next chance in the 37th minute, with Ryan Smith scoring his first goal of the season. James Albert got the assist for the Beavers.

The Bruins, however, came roaring back in the second half. Tennyson was awarded his 11th goal of the season at 49:09 after a pass near the mouth of the goal was deflected off an Oregon State defender into the back of the net, giving UCLA a 3-1 lead. Tsakiris put it away for good at 52:26 when he took a Tennyson pass and beat OSU keeper Mark Muleady one on one from about eight yards out.

UCLA improves its record to 9-1-0, 1-1-0 in the Pac-10, while Oregon State falls to 5-6-1, 0-2-1 in the Pac-10. The Bruins next host Washington on Sunday, Oct. 15 at Frank W. Marshall Field at Drake Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm.
