Women's Soccer Shutout By No. 7 UCLA
Oct. 14, 2000
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Despite holding the No. 7 ranked UCLA Bruins scoreless in the first half, Oregon State University's women's soccer team could not get on the board and dropped its Friday night Pacific-10 soccer match 3-0.
The Bruins (10-1-1, 1-0-1) scored all three of their goals in the second half off corner kicks.
'I'm a bit disappointed that we gave away three goals on corner kicks,' OSU head coach Steve Fennah remarked. 'We were able to prevent them from scoring in the open field only to give away goals on three set plays.
Bruin Forward Stephanie Rigamat broke the scoreless tie in the 47th minute of the match, punching in a shot from about four yards out off a Bethany Bogart corner kick.
The Bruins added another goal at the 64:36 mark when Tracey Milburn shot a loose ball into the left side of the net past OSU keeper Jerika Duran. The final goal of the match came just 35 seconds later when Bogart snuck a corner kick just over the head of Duran.
Duran finished the night with eight saves, including several spectacular plays, while facing 24 Bruin shots.
OSU managed just one shot during the contest.
UCLA registered a match-high 17 corner kicks on the evening compared to just three for the Beavers.
'I'm proud of how we played, we got beat by a better team,' commented Fennah. 'We need to bounce back and get after it against USC.'
The Beavers (6-8-1, 0-2-1) face USC in an afternoon contest on Sunday. Action kicks off at 1 p.m.
