SEATTLE--The Husky men's and women's cross country teams were in a quest to claim impressive wins over probable bubble teams as well as the nationally ranked Wolverine squads at the Michigan Interregional in Ann Arbor Sunday morning.

The No. 4 Husky women placed four runners in the top 10 scoring spots, topping No. 13 Michigan by seven points. Sophomore Gillian Palmer (Edinburgh, Scotland) led the Huskies to victory, winning the women's 5,000-meter race with a time of 17:25. Sophomore Kate Bradshaw (Issaquah, Wash.) placed third followed by seniors Cami Matson (Kent, WA), Kara Syrdal (Shoreline, Wash.) and Jen Schindler (Sacramento, Calif.) at fourth, eighth and 11th, respectively.

The No. 20 men's team finished third among the 12-team field, behind Texas and St. Francis College. The Huskies, who finished ahead of the No. 24 Wolverines for the second time this season, were led by junior Jason Fayant (Spokane, Wash.) and sophomore John Russell (Mica, Wash.), who took fifth and seventh overall. Juniors Mike Hill (Bellevue, Wash) and Morgan Thompson (Spokane, Wash.) along with red-shirt freshman Eric Garner (Kelso, Wash), rounded out the UW top five at 21st, 29th, and 32nd, respectively.

The Washington men and women will be back in action Oct. 28 as they play host to the Pacific-10 Conference Championship meet at Lincoln Park in West Seattle.
