Women's Soccer Falls To No. 10 USC
Oct. 15, 2000
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Oregon State University's women's soccer team gave No. 10 ranked Southern California a run for its money on Sunday afternoon but came up short, as the Trojans rallied for a 5-3 Pacific-10 Conference victory.
The Beavers (6-9-1, 0-3-1) trailed 2-0 at the half but rallied for two goals in the opening six minutes of the second half.
BreeAnna Jolin knocked a pass from Leila Kaady off the crossbar and into the goal to put OSU on the board at 49:21. Kaady followed with a 10-yard shot from the left side that skidded past USC keeper Lauren Arase at the 50:48 mark to knot the score at 2-2.
USC (10-1-2, 2-0-1) regained the lead for good when Andrea Warner scored the decisive goal at 73:03 on a very tight shot that found the upper left portion of the goal off a feed by Isabelle Harvey.
Warner added another goal at the 88:25 mark and Ali Fennell added her second goal of the day at 89:15 to make the final margin.
'It was a fantastic second-half performance, but we need to turn out two good halves' said OSU head coach Steve Fennah. 'We went searching for the winner in the final five minutes and pushed everybody up front, and they stung us for a couple goals going the other direction.'
The Beavers are only the second team to score two goals against the Trojans this season. Florida, who gave USC its only loss on the season, beat the Trojans 2-1 on Sept. 15.
Oregon State travels to Eugene on Friday to face Oregon. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
