STONE MOUNTAIN, GA - ITA All-American Championships
In the opening round of the tournament, the doubles tandem of sophomores Ben Miles and Robert Kowalczyk defeated Graydon Oliver and Philip Stolt of the University of Illinois today 7-5, 6-2. The duo of Kowalczyk and Miles faced Tennessee's Adam Carey and Mark Parsons next and couldn't pull off a victory as they were knocked out of the tournament, losing 6-4, 7-6 (6).
Cal's hopes are still alive in sophomore John Paul Fruttero as he advances in the main draw of the single's competition. The sophomore from San Marino defeated Florida State's Xavier Luscan in the first round of the tournament 6-3, 6-2. The second round proved promising as Fruttero downed Phil Metz (6-2, 6-3) of Ohio State, the contestant who beat Ben Miles in the qualifying rounds just days earlier.
Fruttero will advance to the third round of the tournament and play Andres Pedroso of Duke tomorrow. A win against Pedroso will advance Fruttero to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
