Pac-10 Player of the Week

Washington midfielder Ben Somoza has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for October 10-16.

Somoza, a junior from Edmonds, Wash., played a key role in the Huskies' upset win over No. 5 UCLA as he scored a goal while adding two shots and assists.

After UCLA jumped to a 2-0 lead, Somoza got Washington back in the game when he assisted on the first two Husky goals. He then connected on the game-winner with 19 seconds left in the match to propel Washington to a 3-2 victory, its sixth consecutive win.

This is the first weekly honor for Somoza and Washington's second Player of the Week honor all-time.

ALSO NOMINATED: Adam Zapala, STAN, McKinley Tennyson Jr., UCLA.

CALIFORNIA: The Bears continue to look for their first Conference win under first-year head coach Kevin Grimes. Cal was shut out by Stanford 3-0 (Oct. 15) in its last game and could only muster three shots.

OREGON STATE: The Beavers will host UCLA for the first time ever. OSU has never defeated UCLA (0-6-0, lifetime). Senior forward James Albert leads the team with 58 career games played.

STANFORD: The Cardinal have been led by senior goalkeeper Adam Zapala this season. Zapala has recorded 11 shutouts this year (four shared) and boasts the second-best GAA in the country at 0.24. The most prolific netminder in Stanford history owns seven career or single-season records.

UCLA: Senior forward McKinley Tennyson, Jr., continues to tear up the Pac-10 as he scored three goals during the week to up his total to 12 for the season. Couple that with an assist and the Hermann Trophy and Missouri Athletic Club finalist now has a Conference-leading 25 points on the season. The Bruins

WASHINGTON: The Huskies have gone through their first rotation in the Conference undefeated and currently have a six-game winning streak. The two-time defending MPSF Champions defeated UCLA for the third consecutive year as junior midfielder Ben Somoza scored the game-winning goal with 19 seconds left in one of the most exciting matches of the season thus far.
