Oct. 18, 2000
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Chardonnay Poole's goal off a corner kick at 12:21 set the pace Wednesday as the No. 12 Santa Clara Broncos registered a 2-1 non-conference win over the No. 10 USC Trojans at Buck Shaw Stadium. The loss snapped the Trojans' seven-game unbeaten streak. Santa Clara improved to 10-4-1 overall while USC fell to 10-2-2. The Broncos are now 52-3-3 at Buck Shaw Stadium since 1996.
Santa Clara held a 1-0 lead at halftime before opening up a two-goal lead when Megan Horvath scored on a 2-on-1 breakaway at 56:53.
USC got its lone goal at 73:27 when freshman Amanda Roach recorded her first career goal during a scramble in front of the goal off a corner kick.
'This match really had a playoff environment,' said USC Head Coach Jim Millinder. 'We didn't play well in the first 15 minutes of the match and our two mistakes which led to goals for them hurt us. I am proud of our kids' effort tonight. We just have to learn how to start fast.'
The Trojans will travel to Seattle tomorrow in preparation for a Pac-10 Conference match on Friday (Oct. 20) against Washington. USC will wrap up its three-game road trip on Sunday (Oct. 22) at Washington State.
