Oct. 19, 2000
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford sophomore forward Roger Levesque was selected to the Soccer America Team of the Week for October 9-15, the publication announced. Levesque, from Portland, Maine and Falmouth HS, netted the first two game-winning goals of his career as the second-ranked Cardinal defeated Santa Clara on Oct. 12 and California on Oct. 15.
Against the Broncos, Leveque's header at 33:51 was the first goal in a 2-0 win, against the Golden Bears, he snapped a scoreless tie by drilling a 25-yard goal at 55:50. Levesque, who has appeared in all 13 matches thus far, is second on the team with five goals.
This was Levesque's first career selection to the Soccer America Team of the Week and was Stanford's third of the 2000 season, following junior defender Lee Morrison (Sept. 11-17) and senior forward Luke Rust (Sept. 25-Oct. 1).
Stanford begins a five-game road trip this weekend with matches at Oregon State on Friday and No. 4 Washington on Sunday.
