Walker Among Favorites at Riviera All-American

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - The nation's top women's college tennis playerswill be competing at the 2000 Riviera Women's All-American Championships, thesecond leg of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Grand Slam,starting today at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
UCLA's No. 1 singles player Sara Walker, seeded second in the tournament and ranked No. 3 in the nation, takes on Jahnavi Parekh of Baylor this afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
This year's tournament is highlighted by 7 of the top 10 players in theWingspanBank.com national singles rankings. Second-ranked Aarthi Venkatesanof NCAA champion Georgia opens her season as the No. 1 seed at the Riviera.Rounding out the Top 10 entrants are: Walker, No. 4Kristina Kraszewski of Washington, No. 6 Adria Engel of Arizona State whoreached last year's final, No. 8 Janet Walker of Texas, No. 9 Chin Bee Khooof Arkansas, and No. 10 Megan Miller of Duke. Kraszewski's Sanex WTA TourRanking climbed over 200 spots this past summer.
Also on hand will be Wake Forest's Bea Bielik, who captured the opening legof the ITA Grand Slam, the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships,last month. Duke freshman Ansley Cargill, a main draw participant at the U.S.Open in August, received a wild card into the event.
San Diego's Zuzana Lesenarova, last year's ITA National Senior Player of theYear, captured the last two Riviera All-American titles.
