Volleyball Falls to #5 Arizona

SEATTLE - The fifth-ranked University of Arizona Wildcats used 13 kills by Marisa DaLee to defeat the visiting University of Washington Huskies Friday, 15-1, 15-5, 15-13, in Pac-10 volleyball action at the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz. With the loss, the Huskies fell to 5-12 overall and 1-9 in conference play, while the Wildcats improved to 16-2 overall and 9-1 in the Pac-10.
Despite the loss, the Huskies got 11 kills from sophomore swing hitter Paige Benjamin (Redmond, Wash.) and eight kills from freshman opposite Kara Bjorklund (Olympia, Wash.). Junior quick hitter Lisa Underhill (Vista, Calif.) added a team-best four blocks, while sophomore setter Gretchen Maurer (San Clemente, Calif.) tallied 25 assists and two service aces.
The Huskies actually outblocked the Wildcats (7-3) for the match and hit .375 to Wildcats' .176 hitting percentage in game three, but were unable to push the match to a fourth game.
In addition to DaLee's 13-kill effort, Arizona's Lisa Rutledge had 10 kills and setter Dana Burkholder recorded 43 assists in leading her team to a .303 hitting percentage for the match.
The Huskies continue on their weekend road trip in Arizona Saturday as they travel to Tempe, Ariz., for a 7 p.m., match versus Pac-10 Conference foe Arizona State.
