Lauren Kalvaria Falls In Semifinals Of ITA All-American Women's Tennis Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Junior Lauren Kalvaria's (Indialantic, FL/Boca Raton Prep) impressive run in the ITA Women's All-American Championships came to an end on Saturday with a 6-4, 6-4 semifinal defeat to top-seeded Aarthi Venkatesan of Georgia.
After the win over the 11th-ranked Kalvaria, Venkatesan will face Ashley Cargill of Duke in Sunday's final. Kalvaria, who was one of three unseeded players in the semifinals, won three consecutive straight set matches to advance to the semis.
Kalvaria defeated 20th-ranked Katarina Markovski of South Carolina 6-3, 6-4 and eighth-seeded and 10th-ranked Megan Miller of Duke 6-2, 6-3 in opening round action on Thursday, and then knocked off 18th-ranked Michelle Dasso of Notre Dame 6-2, 6-4 in Friday's quarterfinals.
Kalvaria and junior Gabriela Lastra (Reno, NV/Reno HS) were also competing in Saturday night's late doubles semifinal against Janet Walker and Vladka Ulhirova of Texas.
