WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona State outiside hitter Amanda Burbridge has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for October 17-22, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Burbridge, a senior from Scottsdale, Ariz., may have put on the best single performance ever in ASU's 27 years of volleyball. Over the weekend, Burbridge recorded 77 kills (8.56 kpg), 47 digs (5.22 dpg) and 10 blocks (1.11 bpg) while hitting .342 in two Conference wins over Washington State and Washington.
Against Washington State, Burbridge shattered the 18-year old school record for kills in a match with 39. She also hit .313 with 28 digs and five blocks in the victory over the Cougars. She follwed up that record-breaking performance with 38 kills (.373), 19 digs and five blocks in the win over Washington.
For the season, Burbridge is averaging 5.66 kpg (430 total kills) and with seven matches to play is already 11th in school history for single-season kills. She also ranks fourth on the ASU career list with 1,428 kills. In addition to these accolades, Burbridge currently ranks in the top 10 in the nation in average kills per game and leads the Conference in total kills and average digs per game.
This is the first weekly honor for Burbridge, Arizona State's 15th Player of the Week honor all-time.
