Sean Sylvis Named Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player Of The Week
Oct. 24, 2000
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Stanford senior midfielder Sean Sylvis has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for October 17-23, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Sylvis, from Redmond, Wash., came off the bench to score both game-winning goals as Stanford posted Pac-10 road victories at Oregon State and then-No. 4 Washington. On Friday in Corvallis, Sylvis snapped a 1-1 tie with a header at the 86:12 mark as the Cardinal defeated the Beavers 2-1. In Sunday's 2-0 win over Washington, he broke a scoreless tie by drilling a shot from 12 yards out at 25:29. With that victory, the Cardinal avenged its only loss of the season and pulled even with the Huskies for the top spot in the Conference.
This is the first weekly honor for Sylvis and Stanford's first Player of the Week honor all-time.
Stanford, ranked No. 2 in this week's Soccer America poll, faces Pac-10 rival California this Sunday in Berkeley. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
