Soccer Hosts Arizona & Minnesota

ON TAP: The Arizona State soccer team (11-5, 2-4 Pac-10) will play host to in-state rival Arizona (3-11-2, 0-5-1 Pac-10) on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. The Sun Devils will then jump out of Pac-10 play and face Big Ten opponent Minnesota (8-8, 5-5 Big Ten) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
ASU'S OPPONENTS: This will be the sixth meeting between the Sun Devils and Wildcats. ASU holds a 5-0 all-time record after a 4-0 shutout last year in Tucson. This will be the second meeting against the Golden Gophers, Minnesota defeated ASU 1-0 last year in Minneapolis.
SUN DEVIL SOCCER STADIUM: This season Arizona State christened its new soccer stadium. Located on the same field, the new 1,050 seat stadium features chairback and bench seating, a spacious locker room, team room and training room.
BREAKING SCORING RECORDS: Arizona State set three team records in their 7-0 shutout over Pittsburgh. The seven goals scored broke the old record of six against Utah State in 1997. (ASU tied the record again with a 7-0 win over Eastern Michigan). ASU's eight assists in the game broke last year's mark set against Wyoming when the Sun Devils tallied seven. The 22 total points (7 g/8 a) set an all-time high, breaking the old mark of 17 points also against Wyoming.
MORE RECORDS SET...AND COUNTING: ASU's eighth shutout of the season, a 2-0 blanking over Oregon State, broke the previous school record of six in a single season set last year ... ASU also set a new team assists record with 42, breaking the 1997 record of 41 ... ASU set a new single-game home attendance record of 643 against Michigan.
LAST TIME OUT: ASU dropped a 4-2 contest to 16th-ranked Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. The Cardinal jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but just thirty seconds before the end of the first half, junior Stacey Tullock corralled a loose ball and scored to cut the lead in half. Stanford posted their third goal in the 54th minute, but again the Sun Devils answered in the 65th minute to make it a 3-2 game. Senior Jaclyn Clark beat a Cardinal defender down the right sideline and sent a cross over to Antoinette Marjanovic, who found the back of the net on the far post. However, Stanford would tally one more goal in the 81st minute to preserve the win. Arizona State posted 14 shots, while Stanford had 15. Both goalkeepers made six saves in the contest.
YOUNG GUN: Freshman Patrice Feulner has made an immediate impact on ASU's front line. She's second in points (27), leads the team in assists (7) (ties the single-season record) and is second in goals (10). She has also tallied back-to-back hat tricks this season -- one against Pittsburgh and Eastern Michigan. Feulner is already ASU's fifth all-time leader in goals and sixth all-time leader in points. In addition, Feulner is sixth in the Pac-10 in points (1.62), sixth in goals (10) and seventh in goals per game (0.62).
GOING ON THE OFFENSE: Arizona State is fourth in the Pac-10 in scoring offense, averaging 2.38 goals per game. Arizona State is at or near the top in the Pac-10 in every major offensive category. The Sun Devils are first in assists (39), first in assist per game (2.44) fourth in points (110), fourth in goals (38) and fourth in goals per game (2.38). The Sun Devils also like to help each other, placing two players in the top 10 of the Pac-10 assists leaders.
TOUTING TULLOCK: Junior All-American Stacey Tullock (Phoenix, Arizona) continues to heat up the playing field. The 1999 Pac-10 Player of the Year and 1998 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, Tullock was named a 2000 preseason first team All-American by Soccer Buzz and a second team All American by Soccer America. Tullock is ASU's career leader in every offensive category: goals (42), assists (19), points (103), game-winners (13). Although playing in only 14 of ASU's 16 games, Tullock leads this year's team in points (29), goals (12), game-winning goals (5), shots (69) and shots on goal (34). In addition, Tullock has scored at least one goal in 10 of ASU's 14 games she has played in this season. Tullock's golden goal against Georgia (fifth game-winner and new ASU single-season record) landed her on Soccer America's Team of the Week -- her fourth career appearance. Additionally, with her one goal and one assist performace against the Oregon schools, Tullock -- in just over 2 and half years -- broke the century mark in points with 103.
DEFENSIVE DEMONS: Through 16 games, ASU has allowed 17 goals (five in one game) and limited its opponents to only 63 shots on goal--that's just 3.93 SOG/game. Senior defenders Jessica Bohl and Jaclyn Clark, along with freshmen Amy LePeilbet and Temryess Lane have held opponents to a .108 shot percentage. Senior goalkeeper Erin Reinke, has recorded 7.5 shutouts this year(third in the Pac-10) and has made 58 saves. As a team ASU is fourth in the Pac-10 in shutouts (8), third in corner kicks (96).
MARJANOVIC HONORED: Junior midfielder Antoinette Marjanovic was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week (Oct. 3-9) with her two game-winning goals against the Oregon Schools. This was Marjanovic's first Pac-10 honor.
FRESHMEN INFLUENCE: The Sun Devils start five freshmen a game with each player making significant contributions: Patrice Feulner (F), Haley van Blommestein (M), Temryss Lane (D), Amy LePeilbet (D), Emily Schwimmer (M/F). Combined the five have produced 44 points with 13 goals, 18 assists and two game-winners.
HOME COOKING: Over the past two seasons, Arizona State holds a 16-4 home record, including an 8-2 mark this year.
UNITED KINGDOM TOUR: The Sun Devils spent the second half of July touring the United Kingdom, playing five matches against some of the region's top teams. ASU posted a 4-1 record, outscoring its opponents 20-3. Junior All-American Stacey Tullock led the team with 14 points (5 g/4 a), while sophomore Holly Cohen netted 12 points (5 g/2 a).
CORNER KICKS: ASU returns its four all-time points leaders (Tullock, Inoue, Marjanovic, Clark) ... 10 players have at least three points ... 10 players have scored at least one goal this year ... five different players (Marjanovic, Inoue, Feulner, Lane, Tullock, Cohen) have each tallied a game-winning goal this year ... Franco Bari and Chris Sagar join Patraw's staff as new assistants ... ASU plays 14 of its 20 games at home this year ... the Sun Devils hold a 23-17-2 record against their 2000 opponents ...
