Men's Golf Jumps Into Third Place At Nelson Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford men's golf team climbed into third place Saturday in the Nelson Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course. Duke remained in first place with a second-round score of 293, totaling a five-over par 573 for 36-holes. The Cardinal shot a 292 for a 581 total, eight strokes off the pace. North Carolina State (579) is six strokes back, while Kansas (582) and Alabama (582) are tied for fourth.

Duke's Leif Olson retained possession of first place in the individual race. After a 68 in round one, Olson shot an even-par 70 for a 139 (-3) total and a one-stroke lead. The Blue Devils have two other golfers in the top ten as Matt Krauss and Kevin Streelman are both tied for sixth.

Stanford sophomore Jim Seki (Honolulu, HI) moved into a tie for fourth place and is three strokes back after a second round score of 72. Senior Eric Dahlberg (Fort Worth, TX) is tied for 19th with a 146 two-day total after following up a 72 with a 74.

Junior Philip Rowe (Cornwall, UK) came back with a 73 after his first-round 76 and sits in a tie for 41st at 149. Jimmy Lee (Coral Springs, FL) and Alex Aragon (San Diego, CA) are both tied for 53rd with a score of 150. Lee followed his 71 with a 79, while Aragon carded a 73 after opening with a 77.

Competing as individuals, Ron Won (Irvine, CA) and Blake Mastalir (Englewood, CO) are tied for 23rd. Won carded a 76 Saturday and Mastalir came in with a 75. George Downing (Irvine, CA) recorded a 77 for a 148 total while Ned Yetten (Andover, MI) had an 82. Rudy Barreto (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) had a pair of 80s.

The 19-team tournament concludes Sunday with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
