Teig Advances to Round of 16 at ITA Regional

BERKELEY, Calif. - Oregon sophomore men's tennis player Oded Teig advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championships after defeating Boris Vallejo of St. Mary's 7-5, 6-1 on Sunday.
Jason Menke and Buck Mink pulled off wins for the Ducks in the second round. Menke defeated No. 17 seed Matt Cox of Santa Clara 9-7 while Mink defeated Adam Artunian, also of Santa Clara, 9-8. The matches were played as eight-game pro sets because of time constraints. Menke, however, lost in the third round to Washington's Jason Berman, 6-1, 6-1 while Mink lost to No. 8-seed Balazs Veress of California, 6-2, 6-1.
Earlier in the day, Teig defeated Sacramento State's Kevin Vieira 8-4. Teig, the No. 10 seed, next plays Washington's Matt Hanlin, the No. 3 seed, Monday morning in the quarterfinals.
The tournament concludes Tuesday.
