WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Quarterback Joey Harrington of Oregon and defensive end Andre Carter and punt returner Jemeel Powell, both of California, have been named Pac-10 Players of the Week in football.

Harrington, a junior from Portland, Ore., led Oregon to a comeback 56-55 double-overtime win at Arizona State that preserved the Ducks' lead in the Pac-10 race. He completed 26 of 43 passes (.605) for 434 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions. Three of Harrington's six touchdown passes came in the final eight minutes of the fourth quarter, including one with 17 seconds remaining that sent the game into overtime. The 434 yards is the best passing day in the Pac-10 this year and ranks 19th on the Pac-10 single-game passing list.

Carter and Powell played key roles in California's 28-16 upset victory at USC.

Carter, a junior from San Jose, Calif., posted a game-high nine tackles, eight unassisted, including four tackles for loss (-33 yards), 2.5 of which were QB sacks for minus-32 yards. One of Carter's sacks caused a fumble which set up a Cal touchdown. The Golden Bear defense limited the Trojans to 320 yards total offense, intercepted two passes and registered seven quarterback sacks.

Powell, a sophomore from Los Angeles, Calif., returned four punts for 138 yards (34.5), including an 83-yard return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter that sealed the win for California. It marked the longest punt return in the Pac-10 this year and is the fourth-longest in Cal history. Powell also had a 44-yard return and had a fourth-quarter pass interception on defense to go along with five unassisted tackles and three pass deflections.

Harrington and Carter each were named player of the week for the second time this season, the only players to attain that distinction so far this year.

Also nominated for offensive player of the week honors were quarterback Jeff Krohn of Arizona State and tailbacks Ken Simonton of Oregon State and Sultan McCullough of USC. Others nominated on defense were cornerback Ricky Manning of UCLA and linebackers Adam Archuleta of Arizona State, James Allen of Oregon State and Raonall Smith of Washington State. Jermaine Hanspard of Oregon, Ryan Cesca of Oregon State and Curtis Nettles of Washington State were nominated for special teams play.
