CAL HOSTS ADIDAS-LEGACY CLASSIC: The Golden Bears host the fourth-annual California adidas-Legacy Classic, featuring No. 1 San Jose State (NSCAA), No. 3 Indiana (NSCAA) and No. 5 Stanford (NSCAA), this Saturday and Sunday. Stanford takes on Indiana on Saturday at noon followed by Cal versus San Jose State at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Cal takes on Indiana at 3 p.m., after the Cal women play their last regular season match at 12:30 p.m., against Oregon.

BEARS CONTINUE QUALITY PLAY: The Bears split their weekend matches, defeating Oregon State on Firday, 2-0, and then losing to Stanford on Sunday, 3-0. In Friday's match, senior Kendall Simmonds scored both goals for the Bears, the first coming in the 69th minute and the second in the 75th minute. Junior Austin Ripmaster assisted on both goals. Sunday, the Cardinal snapped the Bears' three-game winning streak. Scott Leber scored two goals for Stanford, as the Cardinal outshot the Bears 19-4. Ripmaster, Ramiro Arredondo, Chris Roner and Patrick Fisher each tallied a shot for Cal.

KEEPERS MAKING STRIDES TO BE THE BEST: Cal's freshman keeper Brian Walker posted another shutout with six saves on Friday against Oregon State. This most recent shutout gives him three shutouts on the season. Most impressive for Walker, is his 40 saves, best among Pac-10 keepers. Cal's other keeper Marco Palmieri added eight saves in the match against Stanford. He has 24 saves and a 1.45 GAA.

SHARE THE WEALTH: The Bears have eight players with points this season. This is four less than last year's squad in which 12 players added points to the team. Thus far, Simmonds leads the Bears with 11 points (five goals, one assist), followed by Roner with seven points (three goals, one assist), Arredondo with five points (one goal, three assists), Ripmaster with four points (one goal, two assists), Robbie Aylesworth, Omar Gusmao, and Juan Luis Romero with two points (goal) and Dylan Dupree with one point (assist).

WHAT LIES AHEAD: Cal's schedule may have been tough so far, but there is no sign of itletting up. Cal takes on the No. 1 San Jose State Spartans on Saturday. The Spartans are 16-0-1 overall, 8-0 in the Western Athletic Conference. Their only blemish came against Stanford on Sept. 26 in which they went double-overtime to a 1-1 tie. SJSU is led by senior midfielder Jorge Martinez who brings 37 points to the match (14 goals, nine assists). The Spartans have four other players with double-digit scoring -- Isaias Bardales (17 points), Lars Lyssand (17 points), Frank Sanfilippo (12 points) and Ryan Suarez (11 points). Spartans keeper Chris Humphreys has a .24 GAA with 34 saves and 10.2 shutouts. Sunday, the Bears take on No. 3 Indiana, which come to Berkeley with a 13-3-0 overall record, 5-2 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers have won the last two College Cups and appears ready to challenge for a third. Indiana is led by Matt Fundenberger with 22 points on 10 goals and two assists. He is followed by 20-point scorers of Pat Noonan and Ryan Mack. Indiana has won its last 10 matches and take on Stanford (14-1-1) on Saturday before they battle Cal on Sunday.

THE GRIME'S FILE: Head coach Kevin Grimes recorded his first win as the Bears coach with the 4-0 victory over UC Santa Cruz in the season opener. Grimes is currently 5-10-1 in his career at Cal after splitting over the weekend. Grimes, 32, comes to Cal after serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Southern Methodist University, for the past three seasons. During his tenure at SMU, the Mustangs recorded a 50-11-2 record and earned three NCAA Tournament bids.
