Oregon-Washington State Football Game Beamed Live to Eugene
Nov. 1, 2000
EUGENE - The University of Oregon has completed arrangements to televise Saturday's football game at Washington State live in McArthur Court, according to an announcement Wednesday by the school's Associate Athletics Director Dave Heeke.
The telecast, which will be made available through the cooperation of Fox Sports Net Northwest in Bellevue, Wash., will be transmitted exclusively to the University campus via a closed circuit feed and will be shown on five 9-by-14-foot projection screens setup in McArthur Court, with doors opening at 1 p.m. The video transmission also will be made available to Oregon students in the University's residence halls.
Approximately 4,500 tickets for Saturday's 2 p.m. telecast will go on sale at 9 a.m. Thursday exclusively at the Casanova Center ticket office. No phone orders for tickets will be accepted.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. University students also will be admitted to the McArthur Court telecast for $3 accompanied by a student ID, or free of charge in the University residence halls.
The campus telecast represents the only live transmission of the Ducks' football game anywhere in the state of Oregon, but will be replayed on Fox Sports Net Northwest affiliates at 7:30 p.m. Saturday as well as Monday at 7:30 p.m.
The telecast will be shown in McArthur Court in part because Autzen Stadium and the Moshofsky Center were not available due to previous commitments. The School of Music will hold its annual Festival of Bands in the two athletic facilities, which attracts upward towards 3,000 high school musicians from throughout Oregon and Washington.
Saturday's football game could go a long way in determining the Pacific-10 Conference championship, with the Ducks entering the contest with a perfect 5-0 league record and 7-1 overall, while Washington State owns a 3-5 (1-4 in the Pac-10) mark.
The game is prohibited from being shown elsewhere live due to the University of Oregon's contractual obligations with ABC Sports and Fox Sports Net as part of the Pacific-10 Conference. ABC will televise Saturday's Arizona at Washington game at 12:30 p.m., while Fox will air Stanford at UCLA at 3:30 p.m. Pac-10 school's are prohibited from televising any other games which conflict with the start or finish of any contest shown as part of the league's television contract with the two TV networks.
