TOKYO, Japan - Arizona State sophomore wrestler Eric Larkin emerged victorious in all three of his opening session matches, winning Pool B of the 138.75 pound category, at the World University Freestyle Championships at Olympic Memorial Youth Center in Tokyo, Japan Friday.

The World University Championships continue Saturday and wrap up Sunday in Tokyo.A 1999 NCAA All-American and Pac-10 Champion as a true freshman, Larkin used his redshirt year last season to train for the Olympic Trials in which he placed third. As a member of the national team last year, he also placed second in the western regional and fifth at the U.S. National Championships.
Larkin was also the first Sun Devil freshman to earn All-America honors since Markus Mollica won the 1993 national title at 158 pounds, both under the tutelage of coach Lee Roy Smith.
Plenty of wrestling action will be available locally this weekend, as the Sun Devils host the Sunkist Kids/ASU International Open at Desert Vista High School Saturday, Nov. 4 through Sunday, Nov. 5.
