Women's Soccer Drops 4-0 Match to No. 15 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - Marcie Ward scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of action to lead 15th-ranked Stanford to a 4-0 victory over the University of Oregon women's soccer team Friday night.
Oregon, which has lost three straight, falls to 4-14-1 and 1-6-1 in the Pac-10. Meanwhile, Stanford improves to 12-5-1 and 5-3-0.
Ward tallied an unassisted goal on a breakaway in the seventh minute. Less than two minutes later, Ward put in her 12th goal of the season on assists from Marcia Wallis and Amy Sauer. Wallis then scored her 12th goal of the year in the 31st minute on a pass from Ward to make it 3-0. Brittany Oliveira scored the match's final goal on assists from Kelsey Carlson and Wallis in the 66th minute.
Freshman forward Ann Westermark led the Ducks with three shots while T.J. Johnson and Mary Cascio each had one. Wallis led the Cardinal with five shots while Ward had three. Stanford outshot Oregon 15-5 and received a combined shutout from starter Carly Smolak and reserve Nicole Barnhart.
Oregon plays its final match of the season at California on Sunday. The match, originally scheduled for 12:30 p.m., begins at noon.
