Women's Soccer Shutout By California, 2-0
Nov. 3, 2000
BERKELEY, Calif. - Oregon State University's women's soccer team suffered its second consecutive shutout in Friday afternoon's Pacific-10 Conference match against California. The Golden Bears' two first half goals provided all of the scoring in the 2-0 victory.
The Beavers fall to 6-12-2 overall and 0-6-2 in Pac-10 action after the loss while No. 6 California improves its record to 16-2-1 overall and 6-2-0 in the conference.
Cal got on the board quickly when Natalie Stuhlmueller sent a pass from Brittany Kirk into the goal from 10-yards out at the 4:32 mark.
The Bears found paydirt again at 35:11 when former Jesuit High star, Laura Schott, took a pass from teammate Tami Pivnick and dribbled past OSU keeper Jerika Duran. Schott's goal was her 23rd of the season.
'We started slowly, they put a couple of points on the board early and we struggled in the first half. We just weren't organized offensively,' said Oregon State head coach Steve Fennah.
The Beavers were out-shot on the day 18-3 and Cal finished with a 5-1 corner kick advantage.
'We made a change in formation in the second half which worked a little better but the game just kind of fizzled after that,' commented Fennah.
Duran recorded six saves on the afternoon, bringing her season total to 83.
Oregon State wraps up its season on Sunday when the Beavers face Stanford. OSU has an 0-7-0 all-time record against the Cardinal.
'The girls are positive, we played fairly well in the second half,' added Fennah. 'We'll see what happens against Stanford.'
The morning match is scheduled to kickoff at 10:30 a.m.
