Women's Golf 12th, Men's Golf 17th After Second Round at Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Arizona State men's golf team stands in 17th place and the Sun Devil women's team is in 12th after the second round of the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational being held Nov. 3-5.
The men shot a five-over 293 in the second round and have a two-round total of 579 which puts them 36 shots behind tournament leader Georgia. Senior Jin Park is tied for 38th (73-70=153), 11 strokes behind the lead of Oklahoma State's Anders Hultman who shot 66s in each of the first two rounds. Senior All-American Paul Casey is tied for 48th (70-74=144), junior Matt Jones and sophomore Brady Stockton share a tie for 56th (69-77=146, 74-74=146) and senior Ryan Whitaker stands in 87th (83-83=165). U.S. Amateur Champion Jeff Quinney is playing in the PGA's Southern Farm Bureau Classic in Madison, Miss.
Georgia shot a 13-under 268 to maintain the tournament lead after setting a first-round tournament record of 20-under 268 in the first round. Georgia Tech is seven strokes off the Bulldogs' pace (550), while NCAA champion Oklahoma State is third (555) and South Carolina is fourth (559).
On the women's side, ASU remained consistent, shooting a 302 in the second round, and stands 20 strokes off the lead of co-leaders Auburn and Duke. Auburn overcame a seven-stroke lead heading into the day and remained steady to tie Duke for the lead with a two-round total of 582. USC and Texas are one stroke off the lead at 583, while Tennessee rounds out the top five (587).
Junior Lisa Meredith is tied for 28th, following up a 72 in the first round with a five-over 77 for a two-day total of 149. Tennessee junior Young-A Yang leads the women's competition following up a three-under 69 in the first round with a four-under 68 in Saturday's second round. Other Sun Devil finishers include freshman Jimin Kang who is tied for 33rd (75-75=150), senior Molly Cooper who is tied for 37th (75-76=151), sophomore Blair O'Neal who is tied for 40th (78-74=152) and senior Michaela Friberg who stands tied for 56th (82-81=163) heading into Sunday's final round.
The Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational, part of the 2000-01 Rolex Collegiate Tour, is presented by Cleveland Golf and administered by Golf World and the College Golf Foundation. The men's tournament is being held on the par 72, 6,651-yard Arthur Hills at Palmetto Dunes, while the women's tournament is being held on the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Hills, a par 72 course that measures 6,651 yards from the championship tees.
