Barden Is Baseball Preseason All-America

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State third baseman Brian Barden has been named to the Preseason All-America Team selected by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Barden, a sophomore, was a third-team selection.
Barden (Bonita, Calif./St. Augustine HS) is coming off a freshman season that saw him bat .370 with 8 home runs and 49 runs batted in, he also had 13 doubles and 50 runs scored. At the conclusion of the 2000 season, he was named to Collegiate Baseball newspaper's Freshman All-America Team and was an All-Pacific-10 honorable mention selection.
In his first season at OSU, Barden earned the Victor Brown Trophy as the Beavers' Most Valuable Player as he batted .435 with runners in scoring position. From April 4-May 14, Barden had at least one hit in 21 of 22 games and batted .402 with 5 homers, 1 triple, 9 doubles and 33 RBIs.
Oregon State went 28-27 in 2000, improving its record by 8 1/2 games over the previous season. The Beavers will open the 2001 season Feb. 2-4 with a three-game series at Cal State-Northridge, OSU's home-opener will be Feb. 27 against Portland. That will kick off a 25-date home schedule that includes Pacific-10 series against Arizona State, Southern California, Washington State and California plus non-league visits from Minnesota, San Francisco, Washington, Portland, Gonzaga and Concordia.
