Men's Golf Takes Third At Prestige

PALM DESERT, Calif. - The Stanford men's golf team, led by individual champion Jimmy Lee (Coral Springs, FL), finished third in The Prestige at the Desert Willow Golf Course (Par 72, 7,056). Northwestern won the 15-team tournament with a nine-under-par 855 after shooting a final-round 283 (-5). The Cardinal finished three strokes off the pace with a six-under 858, defeating its nearest Pac-10 competitor, Washington, by 19 shots.

Lee, a senior, finished tied with Pepperdine's Michael Beard at a six-under 210 after 54 holes to set up a playoff. Lee than carded a lower score than Beard over the playoff to capture his first individual title this year.

Stanford also placed another individual in the top 10, as junior Philip Rowe (Cornwall, UK) shot a final round 71 to finish in seventh place at 213 (-3). Sophomore George Downing (Santa Barbara, CA) posted his highest finish of the season as he checked in tied for 18th with a four-over 220.

Eric Dahlberg (Fort Worth, TX) was just one shot off the top 20, finishing at 221 (+5). Jim Seki (Honolulu, HI) tied for 50th with a 225 while Ron Won (Irvine, CA) finished in 87th at 242.
