Oregon Men's Golf Finishes Ninth In Final Event Of The Fall

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- The Oregon's men's golf team closed out the fall season with a ninth place finish Tuesday at the Prestige at Palm Desert, played on the 7,056-yard, par-72 Desert Willow course.

Sophomore Chris Carnahan and junior Aaron Byers led Oregon with identical scores of 6-over par, 222, to tie for 29th. Junior Brandon Harnden was the Ducks' top golfer Tuesday, shooting a 73 that left him at 7-over 223 for the tournament, tied for 37th.

No. 7 Northwestern won the event by shooting a 9-under par 855 composite. Pepperdine was one stroke back of the Wildcats, followed by Stanford three strokes off the pace. UC Irvine was fourth (867), with Colorado (870), Vanderbilt (870), UC Santa Barbara (875), Washington (877), Oregon (879) and Pacific (882) rounding out the top 10. Oregon's 299 effort Tuesday was its poorest of the three-round event.

The spring golf season begins the last week of January, 2001.
