Washington-UCLA Preview

SEATTLE (AP) - Washington will look to keep its chances for a Rose Bowl berthalive when itplays host to UCLA on Saturday.

The seventh-ranked Huskies (8-1, 5-1 Pac-10) need victories over boththe Bruins (6-3, 3-3) and Washington State, and also need Oregon State to defeatOregon to force a three-way tie for the conference championship. At thatpoint,the Huskies would get the bid due to the tiebreaker points system.

Washington is coming off an emotional 35-32 victory over Arizona. Thegamewas the first for the team since senior safety Curtis Williams suffered aspinal cord injury in a 31-28 win over Stanford on Oct. 28.

Senior quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo, who was named one of the fivefinalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, rushed for 53 yards andtwotouchdowns, including the game-winner with 1:10 left. Tuiasosopo is theHuskies' second-leading rusher, but has the most carries on the team,averaging12 per game.

The Huskies, however, face a tall order against the unranked Bruins, asUCLAhas won the last three meetings, including a dramatic 23-20 overtime triumphlast year at the Rose Bowl. The Bruins hold a 30-27-2 advantage in theall-timeseries.

UCLA comes into the contest having won consecutive games following a37-35victory over Stanford last weekend.

The Bruins, however, have won just once in their last eight games awayfromPasadena, allowing an average of 35 points per game.

UCLA has seen a significant improvement offensively since the return ofjunior running back DeShaun Foster to the starting lineup. Foster, whosuffereda broken bone in his right hand during the Bruins' victory against ArizonaState on Sept. 30, has rushed for 237 yards in the past two games, includingaseason-high 159 last week against the Cardinal.

UCLA is 7-3 over the past two seasons with Foster in the startinglineup and2-7 without him.
