Grinda Claims Victory In First Round of ITA Regional

Los Angeles- UCLA senior Jean-Noel Grinda advanced to the second round of the ITA Region VIII Tournament in Malibu this morning after defeating Marcio Pepe of Santa Barbara, 6-1, 6-3. Grinda, the number two seed, will play this afternoon in the round of 32. UCLA's Jean-Julien Rojer, the tournament's number three seed, also advanced to the round of 32 by defeating Andrew Kazarian of San Diego, 6-1, 6-2.
UCLA sophomore Lassi Ketola provided a first round upset , defeating seventh seed Ryan Moore of USC, 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-2. Other Bruins advancing to the second round included: Chris Sands (9-16) def. Jason Pongsrikul (USD) 7-5, 6-2, Tobias Clemens (9-16) def. Kevin Singleton (UCR), 6-4, 6-0, Travis Rettenmaier (9-16) def. Chris Chung (UCI), 6-2, 6-2, and Derrick Nguyen def. Jonathan Endrikat (UCI), 6-3, 6-3.
The Bruins will also compete in doubles play this afternoon. The UCLA tandem of Grinda and Rojer are the tournament's number two seed.
