Tennis Performs Well in First Day of ITA Regional

STANFORD, Calif. -- Seven members of Washington State's tennis team advanced in the first round of the ITA Regional Championships Thursday.

Erica Perkins, the number 13 seed in the regional, had a first round bye and the Cougars won six of their seven matches on the court in day one of the four day event.

Lorena Arias, Anna Dybicz, Tamara Filipovic, Ana Moura, Zorana Roganovic and Moniek van de Ven all posted first round wins.

The only Cougar who failed to advance was Stacy McKenna who dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Kelly Ramirez of Fresno State.

Arias and Filipovic each recorded 6-1, 6-1 victories over Portland's Jana Jusupovic and Gonzaga's Jamie Buterbaugh, respectively.

Dybicz and Moura both took three sets to register wins in their matches. Dybicz defeated Emilis Anderson of the host Cardinal 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 while Moura knocked off Idaho's Vida Senci 6-2, 2-6, 7-6.

Roganovic downed Gonzaga's Angela Fry 6-4, 6-0 and van de Ven won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 over Oregon's Vickie Gunnerson.
