Tom Paces Women's Volleyball To Sweep Over California

Logan Tom had a match high 16 kills to lead the 20th-ranked Stanford Cardinal to a 3-0 win over California tonight in Berkeley. Game scores were 15-2, 15-6, 15-8.
Stanford improves to 15-11 overall, 8-8 in league play while the Golden Bears fall to 10-14, 5-11 in the Pac-10.
The Cardinal jumped out to an early 7-2 lead behind the tough serving of Tara Conrad and Logan Tom forcing a Cal timeout. The Golden Bears came out of the timeout to score a point but Stanford rallied off eight straight points to close out game one, 15-2. The Cardinal hit a stellar .519 for the game while holding Cal to .154.
With game two tied at 4-4, Stanford went on a five-point run to force a Cal timeout. The Cardinal then opened up the lead to 11-4 before the Golden Bears scored two points to close the gap to 6-11. Stanford would close out the game and take the 2-0 lead into the lockerroom on a block by Tara Conrad and Michelle Chambers. Through two games, Logan Tom had 13 kills to lead all attackers.
Despite Stanford taking a 6-2 lead in game three, the Golden Bears pulled to within two at 4-6 on a Cardinal hitting error. The game would remain close with the two teams tying at 8-8. But Stanford would regain the lead on a kill by Tara Conrad. The Cardinal would score six straight points to win the match on a kill by Ashley Ivy, 15-8.
For the Cardinal, Logan Tom had 16 kills and 11 digs while Tara Conrad added 12 kills and five blocks. Michelle Chambers added 11 digs and two blocks to the Stanford cause. Setter Lindsay Kagawa had 42 assists and three blocks on the night.
Stanford outblocked the Golden Bears, 9-2, on the night.
The Cardinal take on the Oregon schools next week in Maples Pavilion to close out the conference season.
