Women's Tennis Advances Five Players In ITA Northwest Region Championships

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The University of Washington women's tennis team qualified five players for the third round of the main singles draw of the ITA Women's Tennis Regional Championships on Thursday at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

First and second round singles competition in the 128-player draw were completed on Thursday, as was the first round and most of the second round of the 64-team doubles field. Action continues on Friday with the third and fourth round of singles and third round of doubles.With a by in the first round, fourth-ranked senior Kristina Kraszewski advanced to the third round after downing Fresno State's Ewa Gruslecka, 7-5, 6-2. No. 86 junior Ilona Kordonskaya also advanced to the third round after defeating Ana Moura of Washington State, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Andrea Coulter stopped Sacramento State's Caroline Svensson, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Freshman Claire Carter defeated Susanne Bertel of Pacific, 6-2, 6-2. While freshman Erin Hoe upset Fresno State's #4 seed Kim Niggemeyer , 0-6, 6-1 retired.

In doubles action No. 33 ranked sophomore Darija Klaic and Kraszewski defeated Pacific's Melinda Kocsis/Sandija Zarin, 8-0 to advance to the third round.
