Grinda To Play In ITA Regional Final

Los Angeles- UCLA senior Jean-Noel Grinda will face cross-town rival Andrew Park of USC for the singles title of the ITA Region VIII-South Championships on Sunday at 1 pm. Grinda, the tournament's number two seed, advanced to the final after defeating Park's teammate, sixth-seed Daniel Langre, 6-1, 6-4 in the quarterfinal. Grinda then face teammate Lassi Ketola in the semifinal and posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Top seed Park downed UCLA freshman Tobias Clemens, 7-6, 6-1 in the quarterfinals before upending No. 3 seed Jean-Julien Rojer of UCLA in the semifinal round, 6-3, 6-1.
UCLA sophomore Travis Rettenmaier will face will face USC's Nick Rainey in the consolation singles title, which is also scheduled on Sunday at 1 pm.
Perhaps the greatest surprise of the tournament was the play of Ketola. In addition to his first round upset of number seven seed Ryan Moore of USC, the sophomore from Helsinki, Finland, also defeated number four seed Al Garland of Pepperdine in the quarterfinal round.
The doubles champion will definitely be Bruin tandem as the team of Grinda-Rojer will square off against Erfan Djahangiri and Rettenmaier.
