Perkins Advances at ITA Tourney

STANFORD, Calif. - Washington State went 2-2 in the main singles draw of the ITA Women's Tennis Regional Championships on Saturday, and advanced one player to Sunday's quarterfinals.
Washington State's Erica Perkins (Seattle) was the only Cougar to move on to Sunday's competition. Perkins, the #13 seed, defeated Idaho's Barbora Kudlikova 5-7, 7-5, 6-0 in the third round of singles competition. She then went on to down Nevada's Vania Apodaca 7-6 (5), 6-1, advancing her to the quarterfinals Sunday.
In doubles play, Arias and partner freshman Anna Dybicz (Jonknping, Sweden) dropped California's #5 seeded duo of Christina Fusano and Sekita Grant 8-3, advancing them to the quarterfinals. They were then defeated by the #1 seeded team of Laura Granville and Gabriela Lastra of Stanford 8-1, eliminating them from further competition.
Senior Moniek van de Ven (Stellenbosch, South Africa) and her partner freshman Zorana Roganovic (Novi Sad, Yugoslavia) also advanced to the quarterfinals as they defeated Stanford's #6 seeded duo Emilia Anderson and Keiko Tokuda 8-6. They went on to be defeated by Nicole Havlice and Jieun Jacobs of California 8-2, in the quarterfinals.
The event continues on Sunday with singles quarterfinals at 9:00 a.m. and semifinals at 12:30 p.m. at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium, while the doubles semifinals will follow at 3:30 p.m. The singles and doubles finals will be held on Monday at a time to be announced.
