Women's Volleyball Falls to Arizona

LOS ANGELES - UCLA's seventh-ranked women's volleyball team lost a four-game match to No. 3 Arizona on Saturday evening, game scores were 6-15, 15-2, 15-4, 15-6. With the loss, the Bruins fall to 19-6 overall, and 13-3 in the Pac-10 conference. Arizona, meanwhile, retains the top spot in the Pac-10 with a 23-3, 15-2 Pac-10 record.
The Bruins hit .465 as a team in the first game of the match, spreading its 26 kills around between Lauren Fendrick (seven), Elisabeth Bachman (six) and Kristee Porter (five). UCLA out-blocked the Wildcats by a 3-1 margin while earning the first-game win.
The next three games, however, would not go as smoothly. UCLA hit .208 as a team in game two, and was under .200 in the final two games of the match. The Bruins threatened in game four, and were within a point at 5-4 before the game and the match started to slip away. In that fourth game, Porter downed 11 of her match-high 22 kills in the fourth and final game of the match, hitting .471 with 11 kills on 17 attacks with three errors.
It was senior night for two Bruins, middle blocker Elisabeth Bachman and defensive specialist Michelle Quon. Bachman was one of three Bruins with double-figure kills, checking in with 12 kills, three solo blocks and a dig. Quon had two of UCLA's three service aces on the evening, along with three digs.
UCLA returns to action on Thursday, November 16 with a 7 p.m. match at Washington State. The Pac-10 schedule finishes on Friday the 17th at Washington in another 7 pm match.
