NEXT WEEK: Mon., Nov. 20 at NCAA Championships Ames, Iowa 11:00 a.m.
GUANGAL QUALIFIES FOR NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS:Girmay Guangal wil be representing Cal at the NCAA Championships on Monday, November 20 in Ames, Iowa. He was the top freshmen finisher at Regionals and was an automatic individual qualifier for the NCAA Championships. With Guangal's ninth-place finish, he is the highest finishing freshman at Regionals in Cal's history. Guangal is also the top finisher for Cal since Peter Gilmore's sixth-place finish in 1997. He demonstrated outstanding poise and courage in his second 10K race while qualifying to Ames for next Monday's race. At such a young age in his long-distance running career, Guangal's future is getting brighter as his list of accomplishments grows longer. With Asmeron returning in the spring to train and race with Guangal, Cal's men's team can only increase the level of its intensity and presence. It also raises hopes of a nationally-qualifying men's team next fall with Asmeron and Guangal giving a one - two punch in big meets.
