Husky Women's Cross Country Team Earns Spot at NCAAs with At-Large Bid.

SEATTLE--The Washington women's cross country team will make an effort to better last year's 13th place finish as they travel to Ames, Iowa for the NCAA Championships, Monday, Nov. 20.
The Husky women, who were ranked 25th in the NCAA Coaches' poll released today, will be making their fourth consecutive appearance at the NCAAs. The Washington women have competed at seven of the last nine NCAA Championship meets, earning their highest ever NCAA finish at the 1998 meet where they placed ninth overall..
The women earned an at-large bid to the NCAAs based on their regular season wins over automatic or potential qualifying teams. The UW women boasted wins over automatic qualifiers Kansas State, Wisconsin, Arkansas and Michigan as well as Oregon, an at-large qualifier.
Five teams from the West Region earned NCAA bids, all of whom are also members of thePac-10 conference: Stanford, Arizona State, Arizona, Oregon and Washington. The only other region with as many qualifiers is the Northeast Region, which also boasts five bids.
The Husky men's season ended with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA West RegionalSaturday.

The women's team dropped to 25th in the final NCAA Coaches' Poll of the year, released Nov. 13, after finishing fifth at the West Regional Saturday. Four other Pac-10/West Regional teams will be competing at the NCAAs.

Last season, the Washington women finished 13th at the NCAA Championships despite entering the meet as the seventh-ranked team in the country.
