Oregon Volleyball Inks First Recruit For 2001 Season
Nov. 13, 2000
The Oregon volleyball team signed Lauren Westendorf (Centennial High School, Bakersfield, Calif.) as its first recruit for the 2001 season, head coach Carl Ferreira announced today. Westendorf is being recruited as a setter and an outside hitter to be implemented in Oregon's 4-2 Flex offense.
'Lauren has an infectious personality,' Ferreira said. 'She has 100 percent of the intangible characteristics that I think it takes to be successful in the top half of the conference. She's a highly skilled player, and I honestly believe that her attitude, intelligence and work ethic make her an above average recruit.'
The 6-foot senior was a 1st-team all-area in 1999 and was also chosen as the Best All Around Player for her junior season. Her uncle is Nevada football head coach, Chris Tormey, who coached at Idaho when Ferreira was head volleyball coach for the Vandals.
'I'm really excited because I love the coaching staff and I think I can add a lot of things in terms of my mental and physical game,' Westendorf said.
