Woods Named To AP Preseason All-America Team

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball player Loren Woods was named to the 2000-01 preseason All-America team in voting released by the Associated Press.
Woods, a 7-foot-1, senior center, earned the honor after averaging 15.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.9 blocked shots last season. He earned Pacific-10 Conference Newcomer-of-the-Year and first-team all-Pac-10 honors and Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America accolades as well. Woods posted eight double-doubles, a triple-double, scored in double figures 23 times and tied an NCAA record with 14 blocked shots vs. Oregon on Feb. 3.
He received 46 of a possible 72 votes and was joined on the team by Shane Battier of Duke, Troy Murphy of Notre Dame, Joseph Forte of North Carolina and Jamaal Tinsley of Iowa State.
UA's Gilbert Arenas, Jason Gardner, Richard Jefferson and Michael Wright also received votes for the All-America team.
The top-ranked Wildcats open the 2000-01 campaign on Nov. 20 at the Maui Invitational vs. Chaminade.
