Stanford Wrestling Defeats San Francisco State, 26-12

STANFORD, CALIF. -- Junior Harold Penson (Richmond Heights, OH/Richmond Heights) and freshman Nathan Peterson (Georgetown, IN/Floyd Central) both recorded a pin in tonight's home season opener at Burnham Pavilion. Stanford's win in its season opener brings its record to 1-0, the Gators fall to 0-1.
Experience aided the Cardinal as junior Shawn Harmon (Jackson, MI/East Jackson) and sophomore Justin Walker (Otis Orchards, WA/East Valley) both scored major decisions at 157 and 133. Freshman Fred Luminoso (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) and sophomore Brad Selby (Paradise Valley, AZ/Saguaro) each added a decision to bring Stanford's team score to 26.
San Francisco State's Will Pavlick (Fr.), Waylon Miller (Jr.), Danny Stevens (Sr.) and Mauricio Wright (So.) each scored a decision. The Gators were unable to break away from the Cardinal, outscoring Stanford by an average of only 2.5 points in the matches it won.
The Cardinal returns to action when it travels to Oregon on Nov. 24 to face four opponents in three days. The trip begins in Portland with meets against Pacific (5 p.m.) and Portland State (7 p.m.). The team then travels to Oregon State on Nov. 25 and Oregon on Nov. 26. The Cardinal resume its home season on Jan. 19, 2001 when the UC Davis Aggies come to The Farm for a 7 p.m. meet at Burnham Pavilion.
