OSU Signs Four Swimmers To Letters Of Intent

CORVALLIS, Ore. - - Four swimmers signed letters of intent to compete for the Oregon State program, it was announced by OSU head coach Mariusz Podkoscielny on Wednesday.
Stephanie Chambers, Kristin Huston, Grace Peterson, and Nicole Reynolds will attend OSU next fall.
'This is a very solid class,' Podkoscielny said. 'We will have five seniors graduating who will be very hard to replace, but I'm very encouraged by the four signees. They bring national-level experience to our program, including Grace Peterson, who competed in the 2000 Olympic Trials. That will definitely make us a stronger program.'
Peterson, a Junior National swimmer from Ventura, Calif., competed in the 2000 Olympic Trials as a distance freestyle swimmer. Peterson swam a 4:57.60 in the 500 freestyle, 9:57.72 in the 1,000 freestyle, and 16:52.70 in the 1,650 freestyle. She also swam at Ventura High School for coach Mark Schmidt.
Chambers, from San Clemente, Calif., swam at the Junior National level in the breaststroke and individual medley for the Irvine Novaquatics club team in Irvine, Calif., under coach Brent Lorenzen as well as for San Clemente High School. Among her honors at San Clemente HS were superindendent honor roll, scholar athlete, CIF All-American relays, and academic distinction for girls. Her top times in the 100 and 200 freestyles were 52.70 and 1:53.79, respectively.
Huston, from Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, Calif., swam for the Chico AquaJets club squad, which was coached by Brian Clark. Huston swam sprint freestyle and butterfly, posting a top time of 24.31 in the 50 free and 52.98 in the 100 freestyle. She cruised to a time of 58.66 in the 100 butterfly and competed at the Junior National level.
Reynolds, a native of Portland, Ore., rounds out the class. Reynolds competed at the Junior National level in the breaststroke and individual medley and swam for coach Skip Runkle at the Multnomah Athletic Club. Her top time in the 200 individual medley was 2:11, while her top time in the 100 breaststroke was 1:08. She also swam for Southridge High School for coach Stoddart Smith.
The Beavers next competition will be at the Speedo Cup in Long Beach, Calif., from Nov. 30 - Dec. 2. OSU's next home meet is Saturday, Jan. 27 at Stevens Natatorium.
